First Grade Common Core Standards:

ELACC1.W.5- With guidance and support from adults, focus on a topic, respond to questions

In the Writing Workshop...

  • As the book is being read, think about all the ideas the author mentions when talking about peace

  • What does peace mean to me? Write down each idea (including a picture) on individual notecards, and at the end, put them together with a brad to create your own peace book!

  • Peace is...

  • Giving away smiles

  • Thinking before I speak

  • Making food for someone

  • Saying you're sorry

  • Being understanding

  • Welcoming new things

Questions and Discussion points from class:

  • Writing Workshop: Should you ask all students to share their work?

  • Create a "share board" where you can post your work after you feel that it is finished

  • Students can share, but that doesn't have to look one way, as in verbalizing in front of the class- it's invasive

  • Mechanically Inclined: integrating mechanics into reading instead of separately:

  • Concepts as "play"

  • Conventions as a game... when reading, use expression
