Welcome 2015!

The new year is off to a great start in our classroom!

We were introduced to two wonderful teaching tools today! Craft Lessons (2007) by Ralph Fletcher & JoAnn Portalupi, and The Writing Workshop: Working through the hard parts (and they're all hard parts) (2001) by Katie Wood Ray.

After reading p. 1-15 of Craft Lessons, I pulled the quotation, "Learning to write is a slow-growth process" (p.7). We have such busy classrooms and are trying to get through the curriculum, but taking a slow approach to the writing process may avoid negative beginning experiences with it.

After reading chapters 1-3 of The Writing Workshop, I pose a question for the author. What would you say to a child that wants to write about the same thing over and over again? How would you handle it?

Love,

Ms. Verner
